Building Great Bikes
If you think you should pick the bike that’s going to show you all that cycling has to offer off of a shelf, already built, you’ll be missing something.
Whether what you’ll miss is the right gearing, proper fit, or aesthetic that makes you happy to look at your bike, it’s not something you’ll know until it’s too late.
No two people are the same. No two bikes should be the same. You may not need a custom frame, but you might want what a custom frame offers. There is a lot custom offers if we’re actually talking about custom rather than a pre-designed frame that’s not visual. Don’t underestimate the value of things you can’t see like the sidewall thicknesses and butting profile on each tube used on your bike.
The cycling industry has a way of overemphasizing qualities in a bike that helps the industry sell a bike, not necessarily those qualities that are more important but not controllable on a frame that’s stamped out of a mold overseas.
